Tony, himself a keen sailor – he’s Flag
Captain of Starcross Yacht Club in Devon, responsible for the sailing
there and is also
Principle Race Officer for the annual Exe Regatta which takes place
in June – has set up as a
dinghy specialist offering everything from nuts and bolts to spars,
sails
and technical clothing. And he can also provide a service to small
keel boat owners.
Tony prides himself on offering a personal, enthusiastic service, and says because
he is involved in sailing at grass roots level, he understands what sailors needs
are.
His catchline is ‘The chandlery which dares to be different’ and
he says he does this in a number of ways.
He said: “I’m probably the only chandlery in the country which does
not have a retail shop. I’ve decided to take the technology route. Customers
can buy from the website – www.sail-sport.com and can also phone me up
on 01392 420043 or on the mobile 07977 512673 almost anytime to order. I’m
different to the big guys out there. I give a personal service.”
The advantages to his customers are cheaper prices and longer opening hours.
And as an added bonus, he’s offering free postage on 95 per cent of
his stock during March and April.
He said: “I start off with low prices and now if sailors buy off the website,
they’re going to be even cheaper with no postage to pay.
“I provide a total service to get boats on the water, from the smallest
item to trailers, insurance, everything people need.”
Tony is also setting up an affiliation scheme whereby if clubs become affiliate
members, they can earn five per cent of the total amount their members spend
at SailSport.
And if clubs want to advertise their events on SailSport’s website,
they can do this by emailing their details to events@sail-sport.com
